Unibet Poker Review

Unibet Poker is one of the most famous brands in online poker industry, being founded in 1997 by Anders Ström as an online betting and poker site and operating as an independent poker room after it exited Microgaming Poker Network at the beginning of 2014, when it launched its own software targeting recreational players and bringing back the game fun for amateurs and grinders alike. Unibet headquarters are located in Malta and the company is operating under a license issues by Malta Gaming Authority.

Features and Details

Our Unibet Poker review presents all the details you need to know before registering an account at Unibet. Instead of offering a straightforward VIP system, Unibet prefers to combine game features such as using avatars and nicknames as well as running anonymous tables together with rewards for regulars which consist of the lowest rake in online poker industry for micro stakes players.

By introducing new missions and achievements every month, recreational players are rewarded with a more exciting rewards pattern, instead of a rigid VIP structure. Together with Unibet poker bonus, new players will also have access to Unibet Poker promotions which are added every month, making players benefit from multiple gains while playing online.

Unibet Poker Games and Traffic Report

According to our Unibet Poker review, the independent online poker room offers 3 type of games:

·        Cash games

·        Sit and Go

·        Tournaments

Cash games are also split into 3 categories: Texas Holdem, Omaha and Banzai Texas. If both No Limit Holdem and Pot Limit Omaha are already familiar for most of the online poker grinders, Banzai Texas is a special game offered by Unibet exclusively to its players.

How does Banzai Texas work?

Basically, Banzai Texas is like a turbo version of No Limit Holdem, specially designed for recreational players and that is useful in two ways:

·        It make the game more exciting (too often amateurs become bored at the poker tables)

·        It makes players rake more since players go all in pretty often

Players who play Banzai Texas are only allowed to enter the tables with 10bbs maximum buy-in. Thus, the action is pretty similar with super turbo SNGs, players having to go all in pretty often, since there is no room for post flop plays. Usually, when a player goes all in, a “Banzai” sound alert is heard at the tables. This is probably used to increase user experience for recreational players.

Sit and Go Tournaments are played in two formats:

·        HU

·        5-max

Sit and Go are offered for several buy-ins (EUR): 1, 2, 4, 10, 25, 50, 100

In comparison with other sites, Unibet does not offer SNGs with up to 50 players max. The difference between a Sit and Go and tournament is that Sit and Go has a limited number of players that could join and the games begins where the whole number of players has been gained, while tournaments allow many players to join and have guaranteed prizes (thus rewarding players with a minimum prize pool at least).

At Unibet, tournaments have several types: normal, turbo, hyper, flip and deep. Regulars prefer deep tournaments because they can enter with more chips and the levels move slower so variance decreases, while they can increase their edge at the tables.

Unibet also offers many poker freerolls and satellites to live events, such as Unibet Open. The maximum buy-in we have noticed in our Uniber Poker review for MTTs was 300 EUR. All buy-ins are expressed in EUR, because this is the currency used by Unibet.

Pokerscout has reported that Unibet currently holds the 12 position in worldwide online poker sites traffic report based on data provided by the networks, with more than 500 cash games players on a weekly basis and around double figure at peak hours.

At the time this Unibet Poker review was made we have noticed that most of the traffic was at Texas Holdem and Omaha cash games, especially at micro stakes. The numbers are really among the highest in the industry at least for NL4, where the rake is only 1%, so many players opt to play here under these circumstances. It is very important to mention that all cash games at Unibet are in the 6-max format, thus no heads up or 9-max tables are available.

As you can probably notice, the highest traffic is at NL4 and NL10, with more than 100 tables for each stake. At Unibet table selection is prohibited, so you have to click on the stake you want to play and a table is opened automatically without having the option to choose where to sit at the table or which table to join. The software thus not allow bum hunting so regulars have to adapt to these rules.

The number of tables are decreasing and starting with NL100 you can hardly find more than 6 tables for your preferred stake. The maximum stakes you can join are NL400. Multi-tabling is however possible, we are pretty sure that the software allows at least 12 tables to be opened simultaneously. However, we believe that there is a limit at about 15 tables or so, from which you are no longer allowed to open new tables.

From our experience, we have noticed collusion pretty often at the tables as well as chip dumping. If this happens at such reputable brand as Unibet, we don’t want to think what happens at smaller networks. Unfortunately, even if such actions are reported, we haven’t noticed those players getting banned. It’s very weird why players choose to chip dump since it is so easy to deposit or withdraw funds from Unibet. But you can notice from time to time when someone min opens, another guy almost shoves raising to 99bbs, the pre flop raiser folds and eventually the other guy folds for only 1 bb left. It is very annoying when this happens.

On top of this, we shall prevent you, Unibet is flooded by regulars as no other room, pretty often you are facing 5 or 6 regulars per table. I am not going to debate how good or bad those grinders are, but it is no longer a dream land as it has been some time ago when you could easily win tons of money of the tables by playing mostly against fish. These days, we have to admit, if you want to play at Unibet, you have to win the classical regulars battle.

Pot Limit Omaha action is slightly lower than Texas Holdem, but you can still find decent trafic up to PLO50. The highest action is at micro stakes with more than 50 tables at PLO4. The maximum level seems to be PLO400 where you can probably find a few tables.

Even though Banzai Texas is an exclusive game brought by Unibet to its customers, it doesn’t seem to be popular, probably because it is not that profitable for grinders, being played mostly by recreational players. Since there are not that many recreational players at Unibet, the traffic is low for Banzai.

In conclusion, Unibet Poker is a good choice for players who want to benefit from the following advantages while playing cash games:

·        Very good traffic for micro stakes up to NL/PL 50

·        Lowest rake in online poker industry – only 1%

·        Very good software that allows multi-tabling and offers anonymous tables

Unibet Poker Software – Anonymous tables and poker trackers

Unibet uses its own proprietary software that has been launched after the online poker room exited Microgaming and which is focused on bringing and offering a good user experienced to recreational players.

Unibet offers both desktop version with downloadable client and in-browser play. A mobile poker app is also available to download for Android and can be used for both iPhone and iPad.

Are trackers allowed at Unibet?

Poker Trackers such as Holdem Manager 2 and Poker Tracker 4 are not allowed by Unibet Poker software. Thus, players cannot use any HUD at the table nor are they allowed to use any hand converter to have access to stats. Thus, all poker games are played at anonymous tables. Players can even change their avatars and nicknames several times per day to anonymize their presence at the tables and not be recognized by their villains. Every played is allowed to use 5 different nicknames while playing poker online at Unibet.

Players do not need to use any VPN if they register from an eligible territory. However, if you need any technical assistance with VPNs, don’t hesitate to contact us for more details. You can check our list of safe and secure VPNs as well in our poker software section.

We recommend depositing at least 100 EUR for grinding cash games, because the minimum available stake is NL/PL4. Thus, you need at least 25 buy ins to play conservative according to bankroll management rules.

Unibet Poker rake and rakeback deal

In this section of our Unibet Poker review we will discuss about rake method used by Unibet for calculating how much rake players should pay when they play poker online as well as about our rakeback deal for Unibet.

What method uses Unibet to calculate rake?

From rake perspective, Unibet does not use any redistribution rake method such as the ones used by iPoker, Microgaming or GG Network. Thus, Unibet uses a classical weighted contributed rake method, which is pretty common for the vast majority of online poker rooms.

As you can probably notice, there is a similarity between low rake cap and percentage for stakes up to NL/PLO50 and high traffic for these stakes. On the other hand, even if rake cap is only 3 EUR for the highest stakes, which is way lower as compared with other poker networks, nevertheless, if we take into account high rake – 6% and low traffic for these stakes, we only recommend Unibet for micro stakes players who can benefit from high traffic and low rake.

Are there any other bonuses at Unibet?

Currently there are no other bonuses such as no deposit bonus or reload bonus available. However, please keep in mind that:

·        Poker rooms often offer reload bonuses or tournament tickets to inactive players

·        Players earn poker bonuses while passing Unibet challenges

Unibet Poker Challenges

While not running a classical VIP system, Unibet offers a unique poker challenges system that rewards players based on several tasks each month. There are two type of challenges:

·        Minor – such as “Be dealt a suited hand”

·        Major – like “ Win a hand post flop when you have any hand worse than one pair”

Each challenge is split into steps. If a challenge status shows 15/30, it means you completed the task 15 times and you have another 15 times left to acquire challenge points. Once you have completed all steps of a challenge you will earn points and receive a new challenge. Please keep in mind that:

·        Challenge points reset each quarter

·        Challenge points are offered differently for tournaments – you earn 100 points for every 1 EUR in rake

How to redeem challenge points into cash prizes?

Challenges Points track your tasks progress and performance at the tables. Players start earning rewards as soon as they get 50 points. Rewards include free cash, new avatars, poker bonuses, poker tickets and bonus points. You can then exchange any bonus points you earn for extra rewards of your choice!

Once you earn challenge points, you can go into bonus shop to redeem your cash prizes. You have three options to spend your bonus points:

·        Cash game tickets

·        Tournament tickets

·        Poker Bonus

Tournament tickets are easy to understand how they work. You simply exchange points into tournament tickets and use them to play your favorite MTTs. On the other hand, cash game tickets and poker bonus will reward you only after you play a while, bonus is released similar with welcome bonus, receiving cash prizes while raking and cash game tickets allow you to join poker tables but you cannot cash out balance until you play a certain number of hands (where you have to see the flop).

Unibet Poker rewards

Besides bonus shop, into the challenges section of your poker client you can check the status of your challenge points into the rewards tab. There you can see what you receive for attaining each level of challenge points.

Our Unibet Poker review does not provide any straight forward rakeback equivalence for the challenges loyalty system. However, there are rumors that the unique VIP system used by Unibet counts for around 40% rakeback.

Unibet Poker Promotions

On top of Unibet Poker bonus and challenges loyalty system, players also earn extra rakeback through Unibet Poker Promotions. After welcome bonus expires, we can estimate that players can go up to 50% total rakeback at Unibet using the various promotions offered to players.

While Unibet often changes their promotions, currently we can notice the following Unibet Poker promotions running:

·        Super Double Trouble

·        Bounty Freerolls

·        Take a seat and play for €350,00

RakebackAce players can also receive a special offer for Unibet, depending on their profile. Feel free to contact us for more details and to get into specifics.

In conclusion, Unibet Poker is one of the main independent online poker rooms with very good traffic for cash games, especially for micro stakes players. Our Unibet Poker review has also showed that the online poker room chargest the lowest rake on the market, with only 1% for NL/PLO4. While Unibet tried to focus on bringing recreational players offering them a nice user experience with many poker software features such as anonymous tables or using avatars, the tables are mostly occupied by poker regulars, who have flooded all the stakes, but especially micro stakes, probably being attracted by the lowest rake taken from the pots in online poker industry.

While registering via RakebackAce, new players can get a challenging 200 EUR Unibet Poker Bonus worth 25% rakeback to which adds a unique challenges loyalty scheme that rewards players with another 40% rakeback. Taking into account also the other Unibet Poker promotions, after welcome bonus expires our players are rewarded with up to 50% total rakeback by playing poker online at Unibet.
