Perfect Poker – Is It Real?

Is there such a thing as perfect poker? This game may seem easy at first and beginners will think that just with some basic knowledge and luck they can get rich. But that’s definitely not the case, and they soon realize just how complex poker really is.

The more you play it, the more you realize that you need to know a lot more than the basic rules. You need math, odds, self-control and psychology. And even so, that doesn’t guarantee that you will win every time, as you also need a bit of luck.

The more poker players you meet and play against, you realize that no one is perfect in this game. There is no perfect poker player who wins all the time. Even the best pros in the world have bad days and lose millions of dollars against others.

A perfect game of poker would be when you can win regardless of the cards that you have and regardless of what your opponents have. And this is basically impossible.

So then we can consider a perfect game of poker when you are doing the best that you can with the hand that you have. For example, if you have a weak hand, you can either fold it or bluff your way to victory. An aggressive player would choose bluffing, while a passive player will fold and play a better hand.

So in this case both scenarios may be considered as “perfect poker”, depending on what type of player you are. It would basically mean to know exactly what to do in absolutely any situation, and to maximize your earnings / minimize your losses.

How To Perfect Your Poker Game

There are a lot of things you can do towards this, the first and most important being experience. You really need to get your hands dirty and play thousands and thousands of hands.

But just playing alone will not make you great. You need to analyze your plays and decisions, and to constantly improve. You can do that by:

  • Taking poker courses
  • Attending seminars / workshops
  • Hiring a coach
  • Using HUD software
  • Using odds calculators
  • Taking notes
  • Observing pro players’ games
  • And more

This is a process that takes many years and which will probably involve you spending, investing or losing a lot of money along the way.

There is a perfect poker player out there, but it’s not actually a “player”. It’s an artificial intelligence poker bot that is unbeatable at the game of heads up limit Texas Hold’em.

While playing perfect poker (for a human) is impossible, there are lots of steps that you can take in order to improve your game and to become a better player.
